Our testimonial selection
On 5 October 2019, film documentary ‘Paradise Preserved: Congo – Protecting the Gorilla Forests’, received Germany’s Nature Film Prize. The film was commissioned by tv-channel ARTE, known to air cultural programmes.
The jury’s motivation was based on the positive vision of how to secure nature in the tropical forest while at the same time providing the local people with a long-term, economic perspective.
'One of the principles of Interholco's forest management is that individual trees are only harvested once every 30 years. After that, in the respective harvest area, the forest closes the gaps in the canopy in an astonishingly short time.'
'The Congo Basin is an enormously challenged region of the world, of very high ecological sensitivity as well as in need of the most basic human development, in due respect of its traditions and culture. The Congo would not be the same without people like you, contributing through such a conscientious work in every aspect, in the safe management of timber, in your care for the neighbouring communities, in your dedication to safeguard the overall environment.'
