Interholco supports ‘Fair & Precious’ brand for certified African wood companies

14.11.2017. Green consumers, look no further: Interholco is proud to support the new ‘Fair and Precious’ brand, launched in Paris on 8 November 2017.

Hosted by ATIBT, the reference body for tropical timber, the event was attended by some 60 participants, including the French Development Agency AFD and German Cooperation Bank KfW, certification companies FSC® and PEFC, NGOs, journalists, academic researchers and FSC-certified wood producers.

‘Fair and Precious’ is the brainchild of FSC-certified forest companies operating in the tropics. As such, ‘Fair and Precious’ is both a campaign and a brand.

As a campaign, ‘Fair and Precious’ revolves around the concept of ‘much more than wood’, with strong, tell-tale visual elements making end users instantly realise the benefits of sustainably produced wood, across a number of domains.

As a brand, ‘Fair and Precious’ highlights 10 engagements that forest companies implement on the ground, such as, that hundreds of thousands of women and men have employment, a means to support their families, access to safe, clean water and electricity, housing and medical care. That rare wildlife species are protected and continue to thrive in their natural habitat. That as little as 1 or 2 trees are harvested in the equivalent of 1 football field, every 25 or 30 years. That the forest can continue to stock carbon in its trees, regulating the climate.

When buying sustainably produced, environmentally certified African hardwood, anyone involved in design, building and construction can ensure that tropical forests, among the world’s most vitally important eco-systems, are kept alive for generations to come.

‘Fair & Precious’ certified producers take care of the rest: so much more than wood.
