16.07.2024. New edgers have recently been installed at Interholco's production site in Ngombé (Republic of Congo). Machine manufacturer Paul supplied three modern machines for the project. 'With this investment, we will have greater flexibility with the ability to optimise the different widths requested by our customers, while at the same time reducing waste,' adds Christophe Janssen, Vice President of Production and Sales at Interholco.

The new Paul machines offer optimised cutting in terms of yield and value. The advantage of value optimisation is the maximum utilisation of raw materials, taking into account quality and market prices. ‘In principle, it is the operator who decides what is cut and what value we achieve for the goods. He has a key position in the cutting process,’  explains Sawmill Director Francesco Curto.

In the process leading to semi-finished products such as finger-jointed and laminated scantlings, the boards that come from the sawmill go through a number of production stages.

First they are graded by size and quality, glued and then dried in one of our 26 drying kilns, 10 of which have recently been built and commissioned. After this stage, the transformation of raw boards into semi-finished products begins.

This phase of processing requires in-depth knowledge of the trade. The new 9,000 m2 hangar has enabled us to organise the flow of products in the most modern way. We can rely on the skills of our colleagues at every stage of the production process for demanding products such as finger-jointed glulam, finger-jointed blocks and decking. These technically advanced products have enabled us to promote many species with exceptional characteristics such as Bossé, Tali, Kosipo, Kanda et Limbali.
