24.11.2022. The building and construction sector is responsible for almost 40 percent of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions globally. Innovation is making it feasible to use more wood in tall buildings and other infrastructure – helping us “green” our cities because wood stores carbon, requires less energy to produce than many other construction materials, and provides good insulation.

Wood is very much our "second forest". This forest is found in cities and urban communities around the world. The wood that INTERHOLCO responsibly harvests, processes and delivers is thus "our second forest".

It is used in housing, building structures, flooring, window frames, furniture, decks, bridges and much more. Wood products together with wooden buildings also act as global carbon sinks. Wood, even once it has been made into a building component or piece of furniture, continues to store carbon until the end of its life.

Wood is one of the best building materials you can imagine. It is entirely renewable. It has an inherent strength that allows it to meet static requirements. It is fire resistant and more reliable in its behaviour, which is very important in building construction.

Wood is one of the few building materials that is not a finite resource, provided it is harvested responsibly. Well-managed forests remain alive even after harvesting. That is why INTERHOLCO certifies its products with the FSC label (Forest Stewardship Council®, FSC® C022952), the most demanding in terms of socio-environmental criteria today.

About INTERHOLCO
INTERHOLCO offers Sustainable Hardwood 'Made in Africa' as a responsible solution to promote better living conditions (construction with wood), reduce climate change, and increase social justice. As FSC-certified producer specialized in producing and trading logs, sawn timber, glued laminated scantlings and other products, INTERHOLCO manages the entire chain, from forest to customers since 1962. Harvesting wood selectively, INTERHOLCO protects 1.1 million hectares of natural forest from permanent conversion to agricultural land, giving 16’000 local inhabitants access to quality basic services and keeping the habitat of thousands of gorillas and elephants.
