In 2013, we  began consolidating all of our policies and procedures into a single source for employees seeking guidance on business ethics or company values. We found the UN Global Compact's 10 Commitments to be concise guiding principles to frame our Code of Conduct, which is a list of 36 conducts and, in some cases such as anti-bribery, third-parties.

The Code of Conduct has been approved at the Executive Board and Board of Directors levels (since 2015: Group Advisory Board and Supervisory Board, respectively). The Code of Conduct is a dynamic document that is reviewed regularly to include constructive suggestions collected from all employees and stakeholders.


The Code of Conduct is divided into 4 sections:

  1. Responsible Procurement
  2. Rights of People
  3. Corporate Governance
  4. Environment, Health and Safety

The above order does not imply priorities. All 4 categories are of equal importance to Interholco.

Responsible Procurement

  1. Invent new ways to use wood smartly
  2. We know wood is a good, modern material because it is natural, healthy, and renewable.
  3. We look for ways to use more of the tree.
  4. We source wood that is grown responsibly and legally harvested.
  5. We prefer to produce logs close to where they grow so that the local workforce is employed.
  6. Our suppliers are held to the same standards (including environmental and social requirements such as the prohibition of child and forced labor and freedom of association for workers).

Rights of People

  1. We request our employees to bring concerns and ideas to their immediate supervisors or through the chain-of-command.  
  2. Employees are free to gather to discuss improving the workplace.
  3. Employees are provided with competitive pay, health care and social benefits.
  4. Employees are adults, or legal interns, who choose freely to work.
  5. Our security providers are responsible and restrained.
  6. People working with us are requested to respect human rights.
  7. We organise trainings so that employees can move up in the business.
  8. Our employees are requested to respect trade secrets and intellectual property.
  9. Our employees help to set goals that are meaningful and consistent with this Code of Conduct.
  10. We respect that local communities and indigenous peoples may have different cultures, customs & values, and we respect their rights through free, prior and informed consent (FPIC).
  11. We welcome all stakeholders to voice their opinions.
  12. We treat all our employees with fairness and dignity in terms of opportunities/development and noncompliance (with requirements). Also, we provide a Grievance mechanism and integrity line.
  13. Our employees shall work free from discrimination based on arbitrary characteristics,  free of harassment, exploitation, abuse and violence.
  14. Employees with disabilities and family needs can expect flexibility.


Corporate Governance

  1. The management is responsible for this Code of Conduct.
  2. We understand that honest and fair business is good business.
  3. We obey the law, instructions and this Code of Conduct.
  4. We cooperate constructively with authorities.
  5. We make contributions legally, ethically, with fairness and openness.
  6. We do not allow third-parties to bribe on our behalf.
  7. We do not engage in bribery or corruption.
  8. We keep proper records.
  9. We help auditors to evaluate our operations.

Environment, Health and Safety

  1. We maintain healthy work conditions for employees.
  2. We work with supervisors to reduce risks to safety.
  3. We help protecting the environment by caring for the air, water and soil in jobs.
  4. We make decisions with the future in mind.
  5. We help to discover environmental and safety challenges.



This Code of Conduct is established to inform management, employees and associates on how to work together to manufacture renewable products in a highly responsible and sustainable way: with special attention to the needs of workers, communities, and other stakeholders.

This Code of Conduct is an information tool for all employees and stakeholders. As such, all employees and stakeholders are invited to give their feedback on the improvement of this system or report any deviations from it to their respective supervisor or Executive Board member or securely and confidentially through the Grievance Mechanism.
